It has already become a tradition in the past two decades to adornBucharest in beautiful lights for Christmas and to make the day they lights are started a big show.
In 2016, the Christmas lights were put on at the end of the National Day of Romania, on December 1.
The Christmas lights spread over a route of 29 km from the North of the city with the Triumphal Arch to the South until Tineretului Park. This year 52 places have been richly decorated, one of the most impressive of which is the Cismigiu Park and the University Square.
The best spots to capture the beauty of the lights is the road between Piata Romana – Piata Universitatii – Piata Unirii.
The lights arrangement in Bucharest has not been appreciated only by people living here, but also by foreign websites. Msn.com http://www.msn.com/en-gb/lifestyle/deliciouschristmas/14-sparkling-european-cities-you-have-to-see-at-christmas-time/ss-AAk6gvA#image=3 has placed Bucharest 3rd after Paris and Berlin on the must see Christmas lights this season.
If that isn’t reason enough, take into consideration the splendid 25m tall Christmas tree that has been decorated with thousands of festive lights. The tree is standing in the Constitution Square, in front of the Parliament Palace, the place where the traditional Christmas market is being held this year.
So if you are looking to get into the Christmas spirit, you must pay a visit to the Christmas market where you will find a lot of good Romanian food from cooked to sweet stuff, the perfect drinks in the winter season (mulled wine, tea, even hot beer), handmade goods, natural products from various Romanian regions and many other types of Christmasy gifts plus an ice skating rink.
Besides this, almost every other evening there is a concert here. Check out the program on their website http://bucharestchristmasmarket.ro/program-2/ for more details.
It sounds fun, doesn’t it?
See you there!
